Wall tiles vs floor tiles: what goes where
Walls and floors do different jobs, so we choose them differently. Walls can carry gloss finishes, delicate marble look tiles and decorative textures, because nobody walks on them. Floors need genuine grip underfoot when wet, so we steer you towards matt and textured porcelain with a slip rating suited to wet areas. Many ranges offer the same colour in both a wall and a floor finish, so the room still reads as one calm, continuous space.

- 600 x 600 mm — the everyday favourite for bathroom floors: balanced proportions and easy to set out.
- 300 x 600 mm — a classic wall format that suits everything from crisp contemporary bathrooms to renovated Queenslanders.
- 600 x 1200 mm large format — fewer grout lines make a compact bathroom feel noticeably bigger, which is why this is our most requested size for small ensuites.
Niches, feature walls and the details
A tiled niche keeps bottles off the shower floor and is a great spot for contrast — mosaics and stone look tiles are favourites. A feature wall behind the bath or vanity adds personality without overwhelming the room, and travertine look tiles bring a soft, natural warmth that suits Brisbane’s relaxed style. Bathroom tile questions we hear every week
What size tile is best for a small bathroom?
Counter-intuitively, bigger is usually better. Large-format tiles such as 600 x 1200 mm mean fewer grout lines, which makes a small bathroom feel calmer and larger. Light colours and running the same tile from floor to wall help too.
Should I choose matt or gloss tiles in a bathroom?
Both, in the right places. Gloss wall tiles bounce light around and wipe clean easily, while matt or textured floor tiles give bare, wet feet something to hold onto. If in doubt, keep gloss on the walls and matt on the floor.
How many tiles should I order?
Measure your wall and floor areas and allow roughly ten per cent extra for cuts, breakages and future repairs, all from the same batch so the colour matches. Better still, bring your plans into the showroom and we will work out quantities with you — and we always recommend confirming final numbers with your tiler’s own measure before ordering.
