Formats that make sense
600 x 600 mm remains the versatile all-rounder, while 800 x 800 mm and 600 x 1200 mm large formats reduce grout lines in open-plan spaces. Timber-look planks come in long, narrow formats that lay just like floorboards. Larger formats make rooms feel bigger and are especially effective through connected kitchen, living and alfresco zones — and matching your floor to a silica-free porcelain benchtop is an easy way to pull a whole kitchen together.
Why rectified edges matter
A rectified tile has been precision-machined after firing so every edge is perfectly straight and every tile is exactly the same size. That lets your tiler use tight grout joints, giving large-format floors that seamless, almost monolithic look. Most of our porcelain floor ranges are rectified.
Floor tile questions we hear every week
What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic floor tiles?
Porcelain is fired at higher temperatures from finer clays, making it denser, harder and far less absorbent than standard ceramic. For floors — especially busy family floors — porcelain is the more durable choice, which is why it makes up almost all of our floor range.
Can new tiles be laid over old tiles?
Often, yes. If the existing floor is sound, flat and well bonded, an experienced tiler can prepare the surface and tile straight over it, saving demolition time and mess. Ask your tiler to assess it, then bring the details in when you are choosing.
Are timber-look tiles convincing?
These days, remarkably so. High-definition printing and textured surfaces mean plank-format porcelain captures the grain and warmth of timber, with no sanding, no termites and no worries in wet areas — a very Queensland-friendly combination.
